What Akira Toriyama's death means to me
Apr. 8th, 2024 04:43 pmBecause I am a Dragon Ball fan, I felt as if I needed to write something to officially say good-bye to the man who changed my life. That's no exaggeration, Dragon Ball changed the way I think about stories and what a story can be. And I only became a fan last year, in September 2023. The people I follow, most of them grew up alongside Goku and friends! The last time I felt this way was the untimely death of Steven Hillenburg a few years ago-or at least it feels like a few years ago. It feels so recent because Spongebob was my childhood. I was watching episodes in the womb! Knowing that the man behind all of these classic characters, episodes, and jokes that are remembered and referenced by millions is no longer of this world, there's no way around it...it's devastating.
I'll get into specifics of how this story affected me, but March 1st will never be the same for me knowing that it is the death of one of the most influential and legendary creators ever. Thank you, for everything, Mr. Toriyama. Until we meet again.
